Amidst these challenging times, I still believe in the importance of prioritizing health and well-being in all circumstances, so I’d like to share ten simple and merry suggestions to support your health and prevent overindulgence during this holiday season:
Let me take you on a journey through these satisfying tips:
1. Throughout the years I’ve discovered the art of treating myself smartly. Instead of saying no to all the holiday treats, I am a firm believer in indulging with mindfulness. Handpicking just a couple of my favorite treats, I take only half or a quater of the portion and relish each bite, indulging in the pleasure without guilt feelings. Usually I don’t even finish the small portions I’ve chosen.
2. I also love to transform my home into a cozy spa haven in the winter months. With essential oils, and incense sticks, as well as coconut oil, banana peels, cucumbers, oats, and avocados as special ingredients for DIY body scrubs, hair and face masks—a rejuvenating experience that is my secret escape from the cold weather that I personally don’t really enjoy.
3. Then comes the grand cooking party! I find joy in preparing meals mindfully alongside my loved ones. Not only does this bring us together, but it also teaches my daughters and friends how to easily replace ingredients and cooking methods for healthier ones.
4. And then the adventure of seasonal taste tests! I love exploring the colorful world of different seasonal produce that I’ve never tried before or haven’t tasted in a very long time. There are so many exotic fruits, quirky vegetables, and delectable herbs that are new to the tastebuds and they make meals a feast of fresh, new and diverse flavors.
5. I also love some winter tea time warmth, embracing herbal infusions like ginger, peppermint, and chamomile—these magical beverages aid digestion and soothe bloating, and are perfect for cold winter months.
6. Also spicing up life with flavorful turmeric, cinnamon, and cayenne. These are just some examples. There are so many special spices we never use but are so tasty, and also famed for their health benefits. These spices help sprinkle a touch of anti-inflammatory power and a metabolism boost into dishes. You can even mix them with some superfood powders to make warm drinks that are very health powerful and tasty.
7. Ditching the booze is also important for a happy healthy life. As an alternative, dive into a world of healthy “mocktails”—mixing natural fruit waters, or diluted fruit juices, with herbs, and sparkling water. And don’t forget to toast to your health with every fizzful sip!
8. Tech breaks are a golden rule for us during gatherings. Boundaries set the stage for real connections, less screen time, and mindless snacking, fostering deeper and more meaningful interactions.
9. And of course, the art of gratitude! A daily practice of meditation and bedtime thanks creates a shift from within—away from sadness, loneliness, emotional eating, and all those wintertime blues, towards appreciation and positivity.
10. Finally, in nature, I find peace. Winter hikes, leisurely park strolls, or simply breathing in the crisp air are my defence. This elevates my spirit and nurtures my overall well-being.
I hope these small tips that are important to me help you stay focused on your health and well-being and bring you happiness and health as they bring to me even during these trying times.
